Starke R. Hathaway
Starke R. Hathaway (August 22, 1903 – July 4, 1984) was an American psychologist who co-authored the psychological assessment known as the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). He was a longtime faculty member at the University of Minnesota.
==Biography==
Hathaway was born in Central Lake, Michigan〔 and grew up in Marysville, Ohio.〔(【引用サイトリンク】url=http://www.mhhe.com/mayfieldpub/psychtesting/profiles/hathaway.htm )〕 He graduated from Ohio University, then completed master's and doctoral degrees from Ohio State University and the University of Minnesota, respectively. Hathaway joined the faculty at Minnesota, where he created the MMPI with his colleague J. C. McKinley.〔 He also created several devices for the measurement of neural processes. Upon creating a psychogalvanometer, he used it as a lie detector test to solve a murder case.
Late in his life, Hathaway received the APA Distinguished Scientific Award for the Applications of Psychology. He died in Minneapolis in 1984 after an extended illness.
